The synthesis of five novel polycyclic heterocyclic ring systems via p
hotocyclization is reported. These are [1]benzothieno[3',2':4,5]thieno
[2,3-c]quinoline (1), no[3',2':4,5]thieno[2,3-c][1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]
?? quinoline (2), o[3',2':4,5]thieno[2,3-c]tetrazolo[1,5-a]quinoline (
3), thieno ':4,5]thieno[2,3-c][1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]quinoline (4), and
[3',2':4,5]thieno[2,3-c]tetrazolo[1,5-a]-quinoline (5). The total ass
ignments of the H-1 and C-13 nmr spectra of 1, 4, 5, and 15 were deter
mined by utilizing two-dimensional nmr methods.
