Bb. Prasad et al., N-CHLORANIL AND N-XYLENE CONTAINING POLYCATIONS - PREPARATION AND SOLVATION CHARACTERISTICS, Polymer Journal, 27(1), 1995, pp. 49-58
Partial molar volume studies on four new types of cationic polyelectro
lytes (mol wt 1167 to 6432), where quaternized centres in oligomeric c
hain are essentially N-chloranil or N-xylylene ammonium/imminium moiet
ies interspersed with ethylene, phenothiazin-5-ium and bipyridyl (viol
ogen) links, have been undertaken in two dipolar aprotic solvents (dim
ethylformamide and dimethyl sulfoxide) over small temperature range (2
5+/-5 degrees C). A cumulative effect of competing electrostrictional
and solvophobic interactions with the dipolar nonaqueous media was exa
mined to explore the conformational alternations of these polymers at
varying temperatures and concentrations.
