Abstract
Trials were conducted to identify methods for rapid screening of malt quality of sorghum genotypes. Seed mass and density, rates of moisture uptake and total moisture content after 20 h imbibition were correlat ed with steep, malt and dry mass as well as diastatic power of grain s orghum seeds. Phase 2 rate and total moisture content was to a great e xtent dependent on rate of phase 1 moisture uptake. The only character istic associated with diastatic power was malt mass. Its usefulness in a breeding program is disucssed.
