M. Schwab et al., INFLUENCE OF HIGH ALUMINUM CONCENTRATIONS ON FINE-STRUCTURE OF EPICUTICULAR WAXES OF SPRUCE SEEDLINGS, Angewandte Botanik, 68(5-6), 1994, pp. 172-176
The effect of aluminium concentrations of 46, 70 and 140 ppm, respecti
vely, on epicuticular waxes was studied in potted Picea abies (L.) Kar
st. seedlings provided with nutrient solutions. There was a significan
t decrease in Ca, Mg, and P concentration in the needles after a 10 mo
nth period. Also chlorophyll fluorescence of needles was affected. How
ever, no evidence of changes of epicuticular waxes was found due to Al
toxicity when studying micromorphology of needles under the scanning
electron microscope (SEM).
