The recently published (Gude, M. T., and Teja, A. S., 1994, Molec. Phy
s., 81, 599) expression for al-derivative/partial-derivativex2)rho,T(i
nfinity) is demonstrated to be valid only at the solvent critical poin
t, and the more general microscopic connection is shown between the is
othermal-isochoric finite pressure change l-derivativeP/partial-deriva
tivex2)rho,T(infinity) and the rearrangement of the solvent structure
around an infinitely dilute solute. Finally, there is discussion of so
me properties of this derivative and some theoretical implications in
the interpretation of solvation at near critical conditions.
