Abstract
Some activated murine macrophages produced nitrite but were unable to kill Candida albicans. Furthermore, a nitric oxide (NO) generator inhi bited C. albicans growth but was not candidacidal. Our results suggest that NO is candidastatic and that NO is not directly involved but is associated with or induces other macrophage candidacidal mechanisms.
