Abstract
Grooving in PVC cylindrical tubes has been shown to reduce the initial buckling load of axially crushed members. In the present note beams a re chosen to investigate the effect of grooving on buckling. Groove de pth is found to have a stronger influence on buckling than groove leng th. Applications to both PVC tubes and laminate composites with local kinking are discussed.
