Abstract
The author discusses Hudson's (1893/1970) model of the subjective mind and shows how it offers a coherent picture of a wide variety of psych ological phenomena. A number of empirical findings in the psi and psyc hological literature which have been made since Hudson's time are show n to be consistent with the model. Foremost among these are: hypnosis as a facilitor of psi, experimenter effects, the sheep/goat effect, an d the placebo or expectancy effect. The effect of disbelief on psi is also discussed. Some testable predictions derived from Hudson's model are considered. Hudson's ''subjective mind'' is shown to be compatible with and comparable to Allison's ''Inner Self'' and ''Inner Self Help er'' and to Hilgard's ''hidden observer.'' These constructs provide a means by which the effects of faith or belief are given a coherent psy chological basis.
