Abstract
Recent analyses of achievement motivation in the sport setting have fo cussed on how achievement goals organize achievement beliefs and guide subsequent decision making and behavior. This paper examines the rese arch conducted on the cognitive correlates of goal perspectives, the d evelopment of scales to measure goal perspectives, and discusses the r elationship of goal perspectives to achievement strategies and behavio r. The paper concludes by focussing upon the development of achievemen t goals and the role adults play in creating motivational climates tha t foster goal perspectives and achievement behaviors.
