Abstract
The vaterite-type YBO3 yttrium orthoborate is prepared by solid state chemistry as well as the sol-gel method. The fluorescence of the Eu3ion is investigated in the Y1-xEuxBO3 compounds for 0 < x < 0.30 at 30 0 and 77 K upon excitation at 337.1 nm. The influence of the synthesis method is painted out. The spectroscopic data are consistent with two kinds of site for Eu3+.
