Abstract
The discovery of new fossiliferous localities has allowed a detailed r evision of the Carboniferous flora along the Durance valley south of B riancon. Contrary to all present interpretations, the recognized plant assemblage in two areas gives no indication about the presence of Wes tphalian B or C. It is indicative of a late Namurian B-Namurian C age in Western Europe. However, an early Westphalian A age cannot be exclu ded. Therefore, classically admitted stratigraphical subdivisions in B rianconnais are no longer valid.
