Abstract
This paper deals with a dynamic compaction of AI-U powders reinforced by SIC whiskers. The dynamic compaction at the flyer velocity of 1300 m . s(-1) is achieved by using preforms. The change in density as the function of the flyer velocity is measured. The highest density is obt ained at 700 m . s(-1) and the density increases with the increase in the flyer velocity. The vickers hardness number shows the same tendenc y as the density. Furthermore microstructural observation shows traces of melting around the powder particles at the flyer velocity of over 1000 m . s(-1).
