Abstract
Investment casting is widely used in the production of gold jewellery. In contrast to the state of other metal casting industry, however, th eir technological characteristics such as gating, melting and pouring are given little consideration. In this article, the technological cha racteristics of 18K (carat) gold alloys have been studied and are disc ussed. Some defects such as shrinkage porosity, gas porosity, slag inc lusion and plaster hole have been investigated. Their typical characte ristics, the factors that cause them and the methods that can be emplo yed to avoid their occurrence are presented.
