A prototype of a position sensitive detector system for thermal neutro
ns utilizing X-ray storage phosphors has been developed. An overview o
f the functional principle is given and a quantitative characterisatio
n of detector properties such as linearity, dynamic range, neutron and
gamma-sensitivity, spatial resolution and detective quantum efficienc
y is presented. The applicability of the system for neutron radiograph
y is demonstrated.
