The crystal of Sc(NH3OH)(SO4)2.1.5H2O is built up from scandium, sulfa
te and hydroxylammonium ions, and from two crystallographically differ
ent molecules of water. The structure can be described as comprising c
hains of octahedrally and tetrahedrally arranged O atoms around Sc and
S atoms, respectively. These chains are hydrogen bonded by the hydrox
ylammonium ions and the water molecules.
