The crystal structure of ,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline-N,N')palladiu
m(II) dimethyl sulfoxide solvate, [Pd(NO3)2(C24H16N2)].C2H6OS, contain
s two unidentate O-bonded nitrato groups, and the bidentate 4,7-diphen
yl-1,10-phenanthroline molecule in almost square-planar coordination a
round the Pd atom. The phenanthroline ring system is non-planar, exhib
iting a bow-shaped deformation likely originating from the metal coord
ination. The coordinated ligand, as a consequence, exhibits geometrica
l deformations compared with the free ligand molecule. The crystals ha
ve channels which host the disordered solvate molecules. The geometric
al results are compared with those for related compounds.
