Fire fighting equipment is predominantly red or red/white. However, th
is study reports that if other factors are the same, the probability o
f a visibility-related accident for a red or red/white pumper is great
er than the probability for a lime-yellow/white pumper. Data from publ
ic safety departments' records regarding fire pumper runs and accident
s that occurred over a four year period in a single city are reviewed
and tabulated. It is shown that lime-yellow/white fire pumpers are sig
nificantly statistically safer than red and red/white fire pumpers.
