Abstract
Bacillus pasteurii DR(2), a broad-spectrum Hg-resistant bacterial stra in, exhibited delayed sporulation and less mercury volatilization in t he presence of mercury compounds. However, Hg-sensitive Bacillus subti lis sporulated quickly in the presence of HgCl2 and volatilized no mer cury. Levels of Hg2+-reductase and organomercurial lyase in the endosp ores of Bacillus pasteurii DR(2) were lower than those in vegetative c ells.
