Abstract
Solvent effects can be used to switch aryllithium addition to eta(5)-c yclohexadienyl tricarbonyliron complexes between novel formation of an acyl product, and the synthetically more valuable direct addition to the dienyl ligand. This gives efficient access to o-functionalised 1-a rylcyclohexadienyl complexes for use in alkaloid synthesis.
