The one pot synthesis of [(C5H5)Fe(1,2-C5H3(CHO)(CH(2)NMe(2))}] (2) fr
om [(C5H5)Fe(C(5)H(4)CH(2)NMe(2))] (1) is described. The new biferroce
nyl compound [{(C5H5)FeC(5)H(4)CH(2)ONMe(CH2)(2)OCH2}(2)] (3), whose p
reparation is reported, reacts successively with 2 mole equivalents of
LiBu and DMF (-78 degrees C) to give, among other products, the aldeh
yde [(C5H5)Fe(1,2-C5H3(CHO)CH(2)NMe(CH2)(2)OCH=CH2}] (6).
