M. Wakatani et al., EQUILIBRIUM AND STABILITY CONTROL OF HELIOTRON TORSATRON WITH DRIVEN CURRENT, Fusion engineering and design, 26(1-4), 1995, pp. 217-225
In order to elucidate the role of the net toroidal plasma current in t
oroidal plasmas, many experiments for studying stellarator/heliotron p
lasmas with an ohmic heating current or current drive by lower hybrid
waves have been carried out. The effects of the net toroidal plasma cu
rrent on stellarator/heliotron plasmas are reviewed from both theoreti
cal and experimental standpoints in order to understand the difference
s and similarities between the tokamak and stellarator/heliotron. Poss
ibilities for improving the confinement in heliotron/torsatron devices
are addressed.
