G. Demontis et al., STUDY OF COCKROACH HYPERSENSITIVITY IN CH ILDREN - MESOLOGIC SIGHTS, Bulletin de l'Academie nationale de medecine, 178(7), 1994, pp. 1289-1299
CAP-RAST() i6 was systematically performed in sera of 400 children an
d adolescents admitted in an allergy unit. The frequency of this sensi
tisation was 0.238 among allergic subjects. In the whole population di
scriminant factors were 1) the age of the patient, 2) clinical asthma.
A case-control study revealed: 1 degrees) more marked atopic criterio
ns (house dust mite and/or timothy grass pollen associated sensitisati
ons; increased IgE level); 2 degrees) sociologic factors: popular hous
ing and immigrant families. It was already stated that these immigrant
populations had enhanced pre-disposition to develop asthma. This prop
ensity, renforced by unfavourable environment, indicates immigrant fam
ilies as high risk population for respiratory allergy.
