Imaging and spectroscopic observations were made for an infrared objec
t (K = 7.0; alpha = 18h12m26s.54, delta = -12-degrees-04'12''; 1950.0)
, which was detected in 1983 and listed in Astronomical Almanac as a g
lobular cluster candidate, Kodaira 1. The results of follow-up observa
tions suggest that this object is not a globular cluster core, as was
previously suspected, but is most probably a star of M5-8 III heavily
reddened by E(V - K) congruent-to 7-8.
