Abstract
To overcome the constraints imposed by lattice mismatch on the design of ternary laser structures asymmetric and pseudomorphic waveguides ar e proposed. The latter structures are shown to give high luminescence efficiency indicative for a low defect density and a high differential quantum efficiency. The measured far-field patterns agree well with t heoretical predictions. Several possibilities to reduce carrier leakag e out of the active zone are reviewed and investigated by computer sim ulations. Gain measurements based on the modulation depth of the Fabry -Perot modes are also presented.
