REDESCRIPTION OF THE LARVAL STAGES OF PORCELLANA-PLATYCHELES (PENNANT, 1777) REARED UNDER LABORATORY CONDITIONS, Helgolander Meeresuntersuchungen, 50(4), 1996, pp. 517-531
The complete larval development is described for Porcellana platychele
s (Pennant) reared under laboratory conditions. The development consis
ts of two zoeal stages and one megalopa. At 20 degrees C and 35 parts
per thousand salinity, the megalopa appeared 17-18 days after hatching
. Survival was 56 % from hatching to the megalopa stage. The morpholog
ical features of the zoeal and megalopa stages of P. platycheles are c
ompared with those of other species of Porcellana, and a key of the kn
own zoeal stages of the genus is given.
