Ma. Oleary et al., EXPERIMENTAL IMAGES OF HETEROGENEOUS TURBID MEDIA BY FREQUENCY-DOMAINDIFFUSING-PHOTON TOMOGRAPHY, Optics letters, 20(5), 1995, pp. 426-428
We present images of heterogeneous turbid media derived from measureme
nts of diffuse photon-density waves traveling through highly scatterin
g tissue phantoms. To our knowledge, the images are the first experime
ntal reconstruction based on data collected in the frequency domain. W
e demonstrate images of both absorbing and scattering heterogeneities
and show that this method is sensitive to the optical properties of th
e heterogeneity. The algorithm employs a differential measurement sche
me that reduces the effect of errors resulting from incorrect estimati
on of the background optical properties. The relative advantages of so
urces with low and high modulation frequency are discussed within this
context.
