ESTRADIOL TREATMENT HELPED A DEPRESSED POSTMENOPAUSAL WOMAN TO STOP HER PSYCHOTROPIC MEDICATION - A CASE-REPORT

We report the case of a postmenopausal woman who had severe depression with psychotic features. She was treated over a period of 10 years wi th heavy psychotropic medication. Hormone replacement therapy alone re placed the medication and had an even better effect on her affective s ymptoms. Increasing serum oestradiol levels were correlated with impro vement in mood.
