Af. Furnham, REFLECTIONS ON THE STATE-OF-THE-ART IN PSYCHOLOGY - SOME SURVEY FINDINGS, Genetic, social, and general psychology monographs, 120(4), 1994, pp. 409
A 91-item questionnaire on the state-of-the-art in current psychology
was completed by more than 200 academic psychologists from more than 3
0 countries. Extensive biographical information, as well as research i
nterests and productivity, was collected from each candidate. Overall,
the respondents seemed conservative in their values but optimistic ab
out current trends in psychology. Factor analysis suggested specific d
imensions underlying these attitudes statements. Few differences were
found between the English-speaking respondents (Americans and British)
, but academic interest (in biological, cognitive, or social areas) ap
peared highly predictive of state-of-the-art perceptions.
