Vl. Rao et al., EFFECTS OF APODIZATION ON THE PEAK INTENSITY RATIO IN THE IMAGES OF 2-POINT OBJECTS, Indian Journal of Pure & Applied Physics, 33(2), 1995, pp. 97-98
In the image of a two-point object, the ratio of the intensities of th
e two peaks is expected to give the ratio of the intensities of the tw
o object points. However, this ratio shows an oscillatory variation as
the separation between the two object points increase. In this note,
the effects of apodisation by Bartlett filters on this oscillatory nat
ure have been investigated. It has been found that, apodisation is ben
eficial in smoothing these variations to a great extent and for incohe
rent illumination with high apodisation, the ratio of the two peaks in
the image plane is found to give the actual intensity ratio of the tw
o object points.
