Abstract
This historical study of the ''Seven Sisters'' magazines examines whet her, when women are in editorial control, sex-role stereotyping is fou nd less often in magazine content. Findings indicate that the presence of women editors did not reduce stereotypical portrayals in the magaz ines studied, but did increase positive portrayals of women.
