G. Fronza et al., REDUCTION OF CARBOXYLATES TO ALKANOLS CATALYZED BY COLLETOTRICHUM GLOEOSPOROIDES, Journal of the Chemical Society, Chemical Communications, (4), 1995, pp. 439-440
Sodium carboxylates (C-6-C-10) are effectively reduced to the correspo
nding alcohols by growing cultures of Colletotricum gloeosporoides in
a preparatively useful way; intermediacy of the aldehydes is establish
ed by deuterium incorporation experiments; the-unusual reducing capaci
ty is proposed as an useful procedure for the preparation of alcohols
of value as aroma components.
