Abstract
By the reaction of solutions of Hgl(2) and cryptand 222, crystals of a compound consisting of [Hg(cryptand 222)](2+) cations and previously unreported discrete [Hg(3)l(8)](2-) anions are obtained, and are chara cterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction.
