Some lanthanide nitrate complexes with N,N,N',N'-tetrabutyladipamide (
TBAA) have been prepared. These complexes with the general formula [Ln
(2) mu-(TBAA) (TBAA)(2)(NO3)(6)] have been characterized by means of e
lemental analysis, IR spectra and conductance measurement. The crystal
and molecular structure of [Gd-2 mu-(TBAA) (TBAA)(2)(NO3)(6)] has bee
n determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This complex contain
s a binuclear molecule with three organic ligands. Two carbonyls of on
e organic ligand join two Gd(III) and each Gd(III) is coordinated thro
ugh two carbonyls of one organic ligand. The six nitrates are all bide
ntate. Each Gd(III) is coordinated by nine oxygen atoms which form a d
istorted tricapped trigonal prism.
