Abstract
Adriamycin (25 mu M) stimulated NADPH-dependent microsomal lipid perox idation about fourfold over control values. The tested antioxidants, z inc, superoxide dismutase, vitamin E, and desferrioxamine (Desferal) i nhibited Adriamycin-enhanced lipid peroxidation to varying degrees. Ot hers antioxidants, e.g., glutathione, catalase, and selenium, were fou nd to have no effects. Our in vitro studies suggest that adriamycin ef fect is mediated by a complex oxyradical cascade involving superoxide, hydroxyl radical, and small amounts of iron.
