One of the major issues in the implementation of CIM databases is the
maintenance of interdependencies among the heterogeneous databases. Ty
pically, a CIM system is represented by a loosely integrated set of so
ftware products and production data. This work suggests the concept of
a coordinator-a controller which models and monitors interdependencie
s among the various data elements in the system. We suggest the use of
an active semantic database model that is being developed in the fram
ework of the PARDES project at the Technion as such a coordinator. A c
ase study serves to illustrate the concept and its implementation thro
ughout the paper.
