T. Miyazawa et al., ESTABLISHMENT OF CARRIER-STATE INFECTION OF A FELINE RENAL-CELL LINE WITH FELINE SYNCYTIAL VIRUS, Journal of veterinary medical science, 57(1), 1995, pp. 65-69
Although feline syncytial virus (FSV) is normally highly cytopathogeni
c in Crandell feline kidney cells, a non-cytopathic persistent infecti
on was established in the cells after cocultivation of the initially i
nfected cells with uninfected cells 4 times. More than 90% of the pers
istently infected cells were positive for FSV antigen, and electron mi
croscopy showed that the culture produced morphologically normal FSV.
Virus from the carrier culture was infectious, however, the titer of t
he virus from the culture was lower than that from the cytocidally inf
ected CRFK cells.
