Abstract
Mossbauer measurements were carried out on mechanically alloyed 10Fe 2Fe(3)N compounds. Hyperfine fields of various local environments for compounds ground in Ar and in N-2 atmospheres are presented. The init ial increase of the average hyperfine magnetic field is reported. Gase ous nitrogen accelerates the process of mechanical alloying. There is no indication of Fe16N2 formation.
