M. Bassler, PROGNOSIS FACTORS FOR THE SUCCESS OF PSYC HOANALYTICALLY FOUNDED INPATIENT PSYCHOTHERAPY, Zeitschrift fur Psycho-somatische Medizin und Psychoanalyse, 41(1), 1995, pp. 77-97
In the scope of our study for evaluation of the differential effect of
inpatient psychotherapy we investigated by retrospective analysis of
the data at admission and 6.week of treatment, which factors were prog
nostic relevant for therapy success. We defined therapy-success as an
equally weighted combination of patients' assessment of satisfaction w
ith treatment success, which was evaluated by the Helping Relationship
Questionnaire of Luborsky (1984), and the therapists' assessment of s
ymptomatic and ego-structural improvement of the patients. For the var
iables, which were related to the patients or therapists, especially t
he therapists' judgement of the ego-structural disturbance of the pati
ents (r=-.43, N=218, p<0.1) and motivation for psychotherapy (r=.27, N
=70, p<.01) exhibited relevant prognostic potency. The variables conce
rning the therapeutic relationship however gained increased prognostic
value first after six weeks of treatment duration.
