Abstract
The German Hypertension League comments on the efficacy and safety pro file, especially the risk/benefit ratio of ACE-inhibitors (ACEI). It i s pointed out that ACEI are effective in lowering blood pressure witho ut tolerance development in long-term treatment. They are generally we ll tolerated. Possible adverse effects including persistent cough, hyp otension, renal impairment, hyperkalemia and, rarely, angiooedema are critically discussed. Potential useful effects with regard to cardiova scular or renal complications are presented.
