Viferon(500) suppositoria representing a combination of recombinant al
pha(2)-interferon and membrane-stabilizing agents were used in the tre
atment of adult patients with acute viral hepatitis B. Changes in inte
rferon status of the blood under the effect of reaferon and viferon(50
0) were studied. Both reaferon and viferon(500) suppositoria were foun
d to stimulate interferonogenesis in patients with acute viral hepatit
is B, their stimulating effect correlating with the positive time cour
se of clinical manifestations of the disease. The results permit us re
commend viferon(500) for the treatment of viral hepatitis in the early
period of the icterus in order to prevent the disease progress. Param
eters of the interferon system may serve as an objective criterion for
assessment of the treatment efficacy.
