Ai. Shcherbakov et Te. Andreeva, MECHANISM AND KINETICS OF THE ACTIVE AND ACTIVE-PASSIVE DISSOLUTION OF TITANIUM IN ACIDIC MEDIA, Protection of metals, 31(1), 1995, pp. 20-24
A new mechanism of dissolution of titanium in active and active-passiv
e states is suggested. The model eliminates some contradiction between
existing theories and actual experimental observations. It is based o
n the Temkin isotherm and assumes a linear dependence of surface cover
age by hydrogen on the potential. The stage of activated transition of
titanium from the hydride into the adsorbed state is regarded as the
factor controlling active corrosion. The current-potential dependence
has a parabolic shape and correlates well with experimental data.
