S. Shimokawa et al., EXTRACORPOREAL VENOUS BYPASS - A BENEFICIAL DEVICE IN OPERATION FOR SUPERIOR VENA-CAVAL SYNDROME, The Annals of thoracic surgery, 62(6), 1996, pp. 1863-1864
Life-threatening complications can occur unexpectedly during general a
nesthesia in operations for acute progressive superior vena caval synd
rome. We describe a temporary extracorporeal axillofemoral venous bypa
ss procedure to reduce the high venous pressure in the upper part of t
he body before induction of general anesthesia. The bypass supports th
e operation for superior vena caval syndrome without life-threatening
accidents. No serious complications related to the procedure have been
observed.
