We present the redshift and photometric data of a survey for intrinsic
ally faint galaxies towards three nearby voids and the Hercules superc
luster. The project is aimed at finding galaxies of absolute faint mag
nitudes or of low surface brightness within these voids. The selection
of the voids and the search strategy for the galaxies are outlined. B
and R magnitudes, major and minor diameters, as well as the morpholog
y are determined. The diameter distribution of the galaxies is discuss
ed. Optically measured redshifts of 174 galaxies are given. Most of th
e galaxies found show emission lines and late-type morphology. Several
have low-surface brightness features. Our survey identified a higher
percentage of nearby galaxies than magnitude or diameter limited surve
ys.
