Lsc. Wan et al., MATRIX SWELLING - A SIMPLE-MODEL DESCRIBING EXTENT OF SWELLING OF HPMC MATRICES, International journal of pharmaceutics, 116(2), 1995, pp. 159-168
The swelling of HPMC matrices was measured by determining the vertical
displacement with time using a dial indicator. Curve fitting of the d
ata of swelling was carried out by using the coupled Case I-Case II mo
del. The thickness of the swollen layer formed around the matrix core
was greater in HPMC compacts of higher viscosity grade. The rates of C
ase I (alpha(s) coefficient) and Case II (beta(s) coefficient) swellin
g mechanisms increased with concentration and/or viscosity grade of HP
MC.
