In a search for new inhibitors of RNA-directed DNA-polymerases kuehner
omycin A (1) was isolated from fermentations of a Tasmanian Kuehneromy
ces species. Its structure was elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Ku
ehneromycin A (1) is a non-competitive inhibitor of avian myeloblastos
is virus (K-i 200 mu M) and moloney murine leukemia virus (K-i 40 mu M
) reverse transcriptases. The second compound, kuehneromycin B (2) is
a strong inhibitor of platelet aggregation stimulated with different i
nducers. In addition, both compounds exhibit cytotoxic and antimicrobi
al activities.
