Abstract
The recognition and the activation mechanism of the H-3 histamine rece ptor was studied based on quantum-chemical calculations. A mechanistic model proposed both for recognition and activation stage clarifies di fferent properties of histamine and alpha-methylhistamine at the H-3 r eceptor. Interaction with a hypothetical receptor sites leads to the o pening of the intramolecular hydrogen bonding in histamine, whereas th e alpha-methylhistamine remains in closed conformation.
