The authors give a description of Xiphinema cadavalense sp. n. It was
found in the rhizosphere of grapevine at Freixieiro, Cadaval, Portugal
. The species is characterized by two female genital branches equally
developed, a well differentiated pseudo-Z-organ, a short rounded-conoi
d and pegged tail and absence of the male. X. cadavalense sp. n. is ve
ry close to X. lusitanicum Sturhan, 1983 from which it differs mainly
in a longer odontostyle. The new species resembles X. pseudocoxi Sturh
an, 1985 in the shape of pseudo-Z-organ inclusion bodies and also X. e
rriae Hutsebaut, Heyns & Coomans, 1988, X. hardingi Joubert, Kruger &
Heyns, 1988, X. jomercium Joubert, Kruger & Heyns, 1988 and X. transke
