Abstract
This paper considers controller order reduction with the consideration of closed loop stability and performance. A closed loop structurally balancing method is proposed to reduce the controller orders for a cla ss of systems and controllers. The resulting reduced order controllers , if they exist, are guaranteed to stabilize the corresponding systems . Error bounds are also derived for the closed loop performance degrad ation.
