The paper deals with evaluation of the operation of a prototype of sep
arator of flume and wash water. The device was developed and manufactu
red in the works of ZVU Hradec Kralove. It was put into the testing op
eration in the 1989 sugar campaign in the Sugar Factory Doksany. This
report follows the previous article by M. Hubka (1) published in Listy
cukrovarnicke (1990) describing the tested device. The investigations
were concentrated before all in efficiency of sand separation. A sign
ificant attention was payed to granulometric analyses, composition of
sediments and the influence of quality parameters or dispersed particl
es on the resulting separation effect. The separator has been working
during all the measuring period without any, at a minimum need of staf
f or check. The separation efficiency at the sand content 82% for the
fraction 0,2 - 0,4 mm had been reached with water inlet to the separat
or in the range 8 - 13,5 m3/min with an average sediment content 1,26
vol.%. This proves the guaranteed values. A high separation efficiency
(69%) had been measured also for finer fractions with grain size 0,1
- 0,2 mm.
