Abstract
A steady-state equation describing the self-heating of a material due to oxidation, hydrolysis, and the evaporation and condensation of wate r was introduced recently by Sisson et al. (1993, IMA J. Appl. Math. 5 0, 285), and some preliminary existence and uniqueness results were de rived. In this paper a numerical study of the equation is undertaken. Critical behaviour and the disappearance of criticality is observed.
